The Viennese manufactory has been enchanting lovers of beauty for 65 years and in Budapest for the last 15. So, it is celebrating this key anniversary by surprising customers with exclusively packaged, wonderful wines. I also wrote about the birth of this idea here.

It often seems impossible to determine what is considered art, given that the perspectives used to decide this are subjective. The ageless aim of art in any case has to be self-expression, not manipulation, as art is nothing more than a tool for self-expression which affords a cathartic experience.

Everything, thus both the arts and wine-making alike, can be lived with passion. – Dr Friedrich Wille

The jewellery and wine combination evokes this both separately and together. Art or science? I think both are true and it’s not necessary to differentiate. Just like with a new jewellery collection, the creation of a wine can also take years. Both require precision, creativity and love.

Frey Wille - Pure Art

The process of making wine (from grapes) lasts until the end of fermentation, until the emergence of the new wine. The complete clarification of the wine and the development of its characteristic aromas need wine-making procedures and time. For the Frey Wille jewellery, firstly, enamel composed of glass powder and minerals is melted at 800°C and is then applied in four layers to a metal base. This procedure is carried out separately for every colour; each piece usually consists of 12-20 colours. The finished inlay is then encased with ormolu and inserted into a 24-carat-gold- plated bronze case. I think a lot of parallels can be drawn between the production and the products.

The producers of the selected wines are either women themselves or are committed to female principles in their own art: in the service of sublimation of grapes into wine. The challenge was to design labels whose appearance suited the personalities and of course their wines, as well as also reflecting the Viennese company’s spirit and commitment to art. A good example of this is the fact that the element of the company’s logo (sphinx’s wing) appears on all the labels.

In addition to the spirituality and art, I also liked the fact that they succeeded in realising this with five wines which come from five different regions too. This cooperation is reminiscent of the monarchy and the golden age of Art Nouveau.

Good wine is part of the enjoyment of life. The woman who wears our jewellery is enjoying life. – Dr Friedrich Wille
