We’ve already written here and there about the Ábrahám winery in Erdőbenye and now we participated in a tasting as a walkthrough of the last ten years. Since we were there, we of course wrote some tasting notes.

Kerektölges LH 2006   I 85 points
Reserved nose with a little forest floor, mushroom and a hint of floral. Medium-bodied on the palate, with rounded acidity, apricot jam and rose hip. It’s holding up very nicely. The 60g of sugar seems less than it is and nicely balances the wine. Very drinkable with a long finish. A real surprise.

At first, citrus fruit totally dominate the nose, followed by white flowers, tea, mango and honey. Full-bodied on the palate with wonderful acidity, lively citrus, honey and oriental spice. Long finish.

Boreas 2008 (ice wine)   I 90 points
Oriental spice, soup herbs, peach and honey on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, with vibrant acidity and plenty of citrus fruit, reminiscent of a German wine. Clean, taut, amazing!

Kakasok 2009   I 81 points
Restrained scent of sandalwood with notes of fruits of the forest. Full-bodied on the palate, with noticeable alcohol, plenty of tannins, woody notes, forest floor, citrus because of the acidity, apple compote and apricot compote.

Kakasok 2010   I 85 points
Restrained aroma of citrus fruit. Light and fresh with steely acidity, citrus fruit, anise and a hint of petrol indicating the year. Cristal clean. Would benefit from an extra couple of grams of sugar! Long.

Kakasok 2011   I 88 points
Already elegant on the nose, with attractive mineral tones, chalk, herbs and a hint of marzipan. Also perfect on the palate. Well-proportioned, taut and elegant with citrus fruit, white-fleshed fruit, a touch of flint and chalk. Long, elegant, simply super!

Amazing nose of orange, mandarin, grape, flowers, a touch of spice and some chalk. Taut structure, steely acidity and incredible elegance with lovely fruitiness. Long, wonderful tonic bitterness on the finish. Still amazing.

Kakasok 2013   I 84 points
Pale lemon in colour. Restrained nose with plenty of citrus fruit and a little chalkiness in the background. Steely acidity, crystal clear, taut and mineral, with a prickle of carbon dioxide. Flavours of citrus fruit and minerality.

Almost transparent. Sweet citrus on the nose. The palate is light and extremely taut. The acidity perfectly balances the 10g of sugar. Plenty of citrus fruit, a little mandarin, pumpkin seed and chalky acidity complete the picture. There’s a burst of lemon on the finish.

Slightly sultry nose, but once it opens up, it displays kiwi fruit, green apple and some white flowers. Fresh and firm with medium body and razor-sharp acidity. The palate reflects the flavours of citrus fruits, green apple and kiwi fruit, with a medium finish. Still too young. This wine definitely needs a bit of time.
