The Erdevik winery is actually located on the western side of Syrmia, in Serbia, but just a few minutes from the Croatian border. I’ve written about both the Srem region and the winery before, and I’ve even tasted these iconic wines at Lecsengés—it was quite a surprise, and even more so when I found out that their other iconic top wine was named after Trianon!

A ruby color deeper than medium. The aroma is restrained at first glance, with spices, mainly rose and black pepper from the Malabar Coast, while the background is provided by the barrel’s nutty character. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm tannins, abundant red and black berries, a medley of spices, and eucalyptus. Rounded acids, noticeably high alcohol, but thanks to the abundant tannins and full body, this is not at all distracting. Velvety, endless, superb!

A ruby color deeper than medium. The nose is dominated by smoke at first, obviously from the barrel, with a hint of smoked bacon and black berries in the background, mostly blackberry jam. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with serious tannins, lots of pepper, graphite, and toast—as austere as a masculine Bordeaux, but with a finish just as long.

Deep ruby color. The aroma is incredibly complex and intense; the abundance of purple and red flowers, mallow candy, and a refined vanilla note in the background practically burst from the glass. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with rounded acids, silky and velvety, densely textured, and endlessly hedonistic. It reveals a new facet at every moment—deep and complex, fruity and spicy, jammy and taut all at once. Have you found your red wine of the year yet?

Deep ruby color. The nose is restrained, mineral, flinty, but as it opens, minty, chocolatey, toasty, and thyme-like aromas emerge beautifully. On the palate, beautifully integrated tannins, full-bodied, round acids; the flavor echoes the nose, with a very long finish that is very, very spicy. This comes closest to the archetype of Syrah.

A ruby color deeper than medium. A meaty, spicy nose that, as it opens up, reveals increasingly intense sourdough notes. The body is medium-plus, with rounded acids; the tannins are quite lean and rustic. The flavor features roasted meat, pickled cucumber, and dill. Lots of dill. The finish is longer than medium. A completely different style of wine—I wonder why?
